Africa Whisky

A craft single malt distillery on South Africa's subtropical KwaZulu-Natal coast, representing a new generation of African whisky beyond the established Western Cape producers. The coastal Durban climate -- hot, humid, and tropical -- drives extremely aggressive maturation; the angel's share can exceed 8% annually, comparable to India and Taiwan. Uses imported Scottish malted barley and a single copper pot still. Ages in a combination of ex-bourbon and South African wine casks. The tropical maturation produces intensely fruity, spice-forward whiskies that reach maturity remarkably quickly. Still in early stages, but represents the expanding geographic footprint of South African whisky beyond its historical base in Wellington/Paarl.
