About

Produced at the same James Sedgwick Distillery that makes Three Ships, Bain's is South Africa's first single grain whisky, distilled from yellow maize (corn) on column stills. Named after Andrew Geddes Bain, the 19th-century road engineer who built Bain's Kloof Pass through the mountains above the distillery. The whisky is aged exclusively in first-fill bourbon casks, and the warm Cape Winelands climate (similar in many ways to Kentucky) drives rapid maturation and rich vanilla-toffee character. Won World's Best Grain Whisky at the World Whiskies Awards in 2013 and 2018, putting South African whisky firmly on the global map. The use of local maize rather than imported grain gives Bain's a distinctly African terroir identity.
