About

Micro-distillery in Germany's southernmost market town, Oberstdorf in the Allgäu Alps. Berthold Hönle produces tiny batches of single malt at 910m elevation — one of the highest whisky distilleries in Europe. Uses locally grown Allgäu barley and matures in a variety of casks including ex-bourbon, sherry, and local wine casks. The extreme Alpine climate with heavy snowfall and sub-zero winters creates very slow maturation. Annual production is extremely limited. Won multiple awards at German spirits competitions. Bellerhof represents the artisan end of German whisky — a one-man Alpine operation producing whisky that reflects the Allgäu's mountain terroir.
