Austrian distillery in Burgenland, the country's easternmost and warmest state bordering Hungary. Member of the Austrian Whisky Association. The Burgenland's Pannonian climate — hot summers, mild winters — produces the fastest natural maturation in Austria, resulting in richly fruity, full-bodied whiskies. Uses locally grown barley and wheat. Matures in a combination of ex-wine casks from nearby Burgenland wineries (one of Austria's premier wine regions, especially for Blaufränkisch red wine) and traditional bourbon/sherry casks. The wine-cask connection parallels the Australian and New Zealand whisky approach — using local wine heritage to create a regional identity.
