About
The world's only buckwheat whisky distillery, located in Brittany's Finistere department. Eddu (Breton for 'buckwheat') is produced by the Le Lay family's Distillerie des Menhirs, which also makes Breton lambig (apple brandy) and chouchen (mead). The buckwheat -- ble noir in French, a gluten-free pseudo-cereal central to Breton cuisine (galettes) -- produces a spirit with a completely unique flavor profile: nutty, earthy, slightly tannic, with notes of roasted chestnuts and dark honey. Aged in French oak and Breton cider casks. Eddu Silver (unaged), Gold (aged), and Diamant (long-aged) are the core range. The buckwheat must be specially processed because it cannot be malted like barley -- the Le Lay family developed a proprietary conversion technique. Won numerous gold medals at international spirits competitions. Eddu is one of the most genuinely unique whiskies in the world -- a spirit that could literally come from nowhere else.
