About

Historic 16th-17th century listed chateau estate in the heart of the Pays d'Auge, Normandy's most prestigious Calvados appellation. Distillery established on site in 1954, producing Calvados. Rebranded as La Spiriterie Francaise in 2021, becoming the first French company to distil and age rum, whisky, and Calvados under the same banner. Le Breuil Whisky is a single malt produced 100% from Golden Promise barley (cultivated in England), a variety emblematic of 1970s-1980s Scotch whisky. Double-distilled in 25 hl (2,500L) pot still alembics. Won 2021 Gold at World Whisky Awards for 'Whisky Le Breuil Origine' and 2021 Silver for 'Le Breuil Tourbee' (peated). Also produces Norman Whisky Cream. The estate spans 28 hectares with centuries-old trees. Visitor centre features guided tours, sound and light show in aging cellar, and tastings. Normandy's calvados-to-whisky crossover -- the very pattern identified as a gap in Cycle 28.
