Puni
ActiveAbout
Italy's first and most prominent whisky distillery, located in the alpine town of Glorenza (Glurns) in South Tyrol at the base of the Ortler Alps. Founded by the Albrecht family, who combined South Tyrolean agricultural tradition with Scottish distilling expertise. The striking cube-shaped distillery building (designed by architect Werner Tscholl) uses locally grown barley, wheat, and rye in various mash bills. The alpine location at 900 meters elevation provides cold winters and warm summers for dynamic maturation. Core expressions include Gold (malt/wheat/rye blend, Marsala/bourbon casks), Sole (Italian wine casks), Vina (Marsala cask), and Alba (bourbon/Marsala). Puni has single-handedly created the Italian whisky category and demonstrated that alpine terroir produces a genuinely distinctive spirit.
