About
An Oaxacan whisky produced from heritage Mexican corn varieties -- each expression uses a single landrace variety identified by its color: white, yellow, purple, and black corn. Located in the mountains of Oaxaca, the heartland of mezcal production, Sierra Norte applies mezcal-making sensibilities to whisky. The different corn varieties produce strikingly different flavor profiles: the black corn whisky has chocolate and coffee notes, the purple corn brings berry and floral elements. All varieties are sourced from indigenous Zapotec and Mixe farmers in the Sierra Norte mountains at elevations above 2,000 meters. Double-distilled and aged in French oak. The project preserves endangered heritage corn cultivars while creating economic value for indigenous farming communities. Sierra Norte is mezcal country's answer to whisky -- and it tastes like nothing else on earth.
